Maddie, Tilly and Hayden’s story

K4K headed to Ballarat to spend time with three little legends: sisters Maddie (12) and Tilly (7), and Hayden (7) — a deadly lad from Yorta Yorta Country.

They’re in foster (out-of-home) care — new houses, new rules, a roster of adults and appointments, and big feelings that don’t always have easy names. There are case meetings, contact visits and weeks that change at the last minute. What they needed was a breather: a few hours where life felt light, their voices set the pace, and the only decision was who was taking the next kick.

When times are hard, we step in with kind, practical support so they can get back to being kids.

We took the kids on a big footy day out! Watching the Dogs host the Giants, they got the total red carpet experience, with a guard of honour at the banner, an on-field warm-up kick, and a player meet-and-greet. They also got to head down into the players’ room post-game, which they described as “the inner sanctum.”

Our mission is to make sure kids doing it tough know they’re loved, cared for and backed by a village. With simple outings and steady buddy mentorships, we’ve seen Maddie, Tilly and Hayden grow their social skills and confidence.
